気がつけば5月。ゴールデンウィークの終わりにこれを書いています。前回がヘビーな内容だったので今回はニューヨークで行ってよかったレストランを紹介します。
今年の2月末、ソウルメイトしわちゃんとカナダに行った帰りにニューヨークで５泊したのですが、しわちゃんは4回目、私は3回目のニューヨークだったので定番や有名じゃないところを探しました。
今回の旅行で一番のアタリだったと思うのは、ソーホーにある Balthazar バルサザール というレストラン。黄色字でBalthazarと書いてある印象的な赤のオーニングテントが目印です。
予約が取れない、飛び込みで行くと数時間待ちとブログなどに書かれてたりするけど、平日だったからか予約なしでも並ばずに入れたよ。でも予約していくのが無難かも。
店内はアンティーク調のビアホールのような雰囲気が広がってる。
店名からもなんとなく感じるように、フレンチのお店なのでメニューにフランス語表記のメニューも多かったな。

お陰でフランス語を勉強してた頃を思い出した。
前日までにメインはシェアした方がいいと学んだので（どれも量が多すぎるから）、オムレツをシェアすることにしてそれぞれ好きなパンを選んだよ。ちなみに私はシナモンロールにした。
店内は料理と会話を楽しむ声で賑わっていたけど、落ち着いて食事ができた。いつまでもその場所に居たくてカフェラテを飲み切るのが寂しかったくらいリラックスしたよ。あと、ギャルソンの接客も丁寧だった。
地下へ続く階段を降りていくとそこには特筆すべき世界のトイレベスト10に入れたくなるような素敵なお手洗いがあります。
お会計した後、隣に併設された直営のペイストリーショップにも寄ったよ。
いつも思うけど、ショーケースにこれだけ美味しそうなパンが並んでるとワクワクするし選べないよね。私は結局、クロワッサンを選んだよ。
バルサザールをおすすめする理由は、提供される料理や淹れてくれるコーヒーが美味しいからだけではなく、お店の雰囲気、接客、歴史、場所も含めた総合的な観点からです。
コロナが落ち着いてニューヨークを訪れる機会があれば是非行ってみてね。

It's been a while to come back in Strawberry Fields Forever.
This time gonna introduce the best breakfast place I've ever been to in NY.
Last February, Maiko and I stopped by New York after seeing our host family in Canada. That was the third time for me to visit NY so I was looking for not famous spots for tourists but secret place as only New Yorkers know. After all what I found was a French-American restaurant, Balthazar in Soho.
This restaurant actually seems to be famous amoung New Yorkers and also famous for difficulty to make reservations in the past. We visited on a weekday so could take a seat smoothly without reservation.
I ordered cinnamon bun and we shared omelette.
The atmophere was so cozy that I didn't wanna drink up my latte.
Thay also have an original pastry shop next to the restaurant so you can get the same bread they offer in the restaurant.
The reason why I recommend Balthazar is not only because of their cuisine but also the atmosphere, good service, history and location.

HATE or LOVE

Now as you know the world is in the serious crisis of COVID-19. While mamy people falling victim to the coronavirus, many people are fighting against the disease as patients, doctors, nurses, other medical workers and politicicans.
We all are so sad and having anxiety.
It is not only you.
You are not alone.
Please don't be depressed and defeated.
A few days ago, I saw a video that a guy sprayed something look like rubbing alcohol on a Asian guy. That was so shocking because this is just a hate crime.
Hate only brings hate and hate could even lead to genocide looking back to the human history.
To that incident, MTA posted such a tweet.
What works in stopping the spread of Coronavirus:
— MTA. Stay Home. Stop the Spread. (@MTA) 2020年3月5日
1. Wash your hands for at least 20 seconds
2. Cough and sneeze into your elbow
3. Stay home if you're sick
What doesn't work:

In this way MTA clearly shows their attitude towards racial discrimination. They don't allow racism.
Also let me share an awareness campaign that MTA launched for hate crimes on subway.
I found this when actually taking MTA last month. It was kind of impressive but fogot to take a photo so here is a picture from google.
What I felt impressed was MTA is taking a measure to combat hate crimes on trains officially and show passangers their attitude.
The U.S. is more multiracial country than Japan still proud of being a racially homogenious country; therefore racial discrimination is much more likely to happen in the U.S. But what I hope the U.S. is to show us how strong a country can be as multiracial nation, overcoming racial matters.

もうすぐ春が来ます
毎年この時期になるとワクワクするもんですが今はコロナウイルスに怯えてるのではないかと思います
今回シェアしたいのは、先日ニューヨークで起こったコロナに関する人種差別について
かなり話題になったのでもしかすると見たことある人もいるかもしれませんが、MTAと呼ばれるニューヨークの地下鉄で、ある男性がアジア系の男性に除菌スプレーのようなものを吹きかけながら暴言を吐く動画がSNSに投稿されました。
MTAはこの騒動に対して公式Twitterで
コロナウイルスの拡散防止に有効なこと：
１、最低でも20秒間手を洗うこと
２、咳や鼻をすする時は肘で覆うこと
３、体調が悪ければ家にいること
全く意味のないこと：
１、レイシズム
とツイートしました。

レイシズムとはある人種が他の人種よりも優れているという考えだけど、最近では人種差別そのものを指す場合もある気がする
公式の見解はこのような人種差別を許してはいけないということ
先月、MTAに乗ってたらある広告を見つけました。
Hate has no place in our transit system
地下鉄での差別行為を許さないという内容です。
これを見つけた時、車内での差別を許さないということを公式の見解として示していることが良いなと思ったな。写真撮りたかったけど忘れちゃったのでこの画像はGoogleで探しましたよ。
今回の件で感じたことは、アメリカの中で比較的にリベラルなニューヨークでもまだまだ人種差別はあるということ。
ここであまり書くつもりはないけど
人類の歴史を振り返れば、憎しみはヘイトクライム（憎悪犯罪）に繋がり、それは時にジェノサイド（集団虐殺）へと繋がります。つまり 憎むという感情からは憎しみしか生まれないのです。
このどうしようもない状況を誰かのせいにする為に必死にならないで欲しい
こんな時だからこそ思いやりを持って行動して欲しい
と思います。
先は見えないけど今できることを こなして行こう。離れているけれど、一緒に戦いましょう。

灰の水曜日（はいのすいようび、 英: Ash Wednesday 中略）は、キリスト教カトリック教会をはじめとする西方教会の典礼暦年のうちの一日。四旬節の初日（復活祭の46日前）に当たる。元来はカトリック教会の行事であるが、その流れを汲むプロテスタント教会（聖公会、ルーテル教会など）でも行われる。東方教会では行われない。 出典:Wikipedia
私自身、中学から大学までプロテスタント系の学校に通ってたけど聞いたことなかった(聖書の授業寝てたからかな？)
今年の灰の水曜日は2月26日だったよ
それがたまたまニューヨークの滞在に被ってたらしい
これが宗教的なものと知って感じたことは
日本に比べて若い人でも宗教を信仰してて、しかもそれがオープンだということ
日本って無宗教の人が多かったり、宗教を示すようなことを避ける傾向があるよね
私もやけど。
とても目立つ場所の額に黒で十字架を書くのは私にとってすごく新鮮で、これもアイデンティティを表す方法のひとつなのかって考えたらカッコいいなとも思った

Anyone knows about Ash Wednesday?
One day I saw some people who had something black mark on their foreheads regardless of gender and generations in NY, which made me interested so I googled it.
Ash Wednesday is a Christian holy day of prayer and fasting. It is preceded by Shrove Tuesday and falls on the first day of Lent,[2] the six weeks of penitence before Easter. Ash Wednesday is traditionally observed by Western Christians. It is observed by Catholicsin the Roman Rite, Anglicans, Lutherans, Methodists, Moravians, Independent Catholics, as well as by many from the Reformed faith (inclusive of the Congregationalist, Continental Reformed, Presbyterian traditions). Wikipedia told me that Ash Wednessday is one of the customs of Christianity. I had no idea about it even though I've been studying at Protestant school from Junior high to University. I don't think I had a chance to get to know the custom through the 10 years. Probably.
From this experience, little bit surprised that younger generations have own religious identity and they're also open, compared to Japanese people.
Japan is the last country that people tend to express and show their religious beliefs and talk about this kind of thing I ever know. Plus, especially the youth are not likely to be religious. In fact, I don't have an religious identity and rarely try to chat about it with my friends as well.
I feel like I found diversity in NY through Ash Wednesday.
How to kill time onboard
Hellooo
I'm on a plane back to Japan and writing this in the darkness.
This time I write about how I usually spend on a air plane. Personally, can't stand over 6 hours flight but from Japan to North America it takes 12 to 14 hours! Holy cow.....
Last time came back to Japan from Canada, I brought some snacks onboard but ate up all so soon the plane took off. Then I got more food and snacks before getting on a plane this time but couldn't have them because of the inflight meal after all...
I also brought a book, footrest and neck pillow for my long flight. It was the very first time to use footrest, which was one of ways I found on google not to get tired on long flight. TBH it was bothering to adjust the belts... It was actually good for my foot but not easy to use in the darkness. I might not recommend this since it costs about $10.
Of course we can't miss music for travel.
Listened to lots of songs and one of my recent fav tunes is New Love from Maroon 5.
I was little bit amazed when Empire State of Mind was played when having blanch in NY.
I watched just one movie, Jumanji the next level. That was good. Laughed a lot. Netflix has the first movie so check it out!

今回のテーマは機内での過ごし方🗽
個人的に6時間以上のフライトは耐えられないので今回はかなり前から対策を練ったよ
というかめっちゃググった
食べ物、フットレスト、ネックピローを持ち込んでみたけど、機内食あるから持ってったご飯はあまり食べれなかったしフットレストは暗くて狭い中、調節するのが難しかったからネックピローくらいしか役に立たんかった……
あとの頼みの綱は音楽と本と睡眠だよね
音楽は洋楽、邦楽関わらずめちゃくちゃ聴いた。
今回の旅行の前にお母さんがユーミンのルージュの伝言って本を貸してくれたから読んだ(元々はお父さんのだけど)
曲の歌詞が所々にでてくるんだけど
たった3行くらいの歌詞で泣けるの
ユーミンってやっぱり天才だよね
帰りの羽田までの飛行機は13時間のフライトだったけどラッキーなことに隣の2席が空いててゆっくり寝れた〜😪
途中プチハプニングもあったけど、航空業界に就職するしわちゃんのおかげで無事行って帰ってこれた

みなさんこんにちはー！
今回のテーマは "eco" です
トロントとニューヨークで感じたエコについてシェアするよ
まずトロントにあるスターバックスでアイスティを頼んだときにストローが貰えなくてカップから直飲みした。
ストローが置いてないか探してみたけどやっぱりなくて定員さんに言えば貰えただろうけどそのまま直で飲んでみた。最初はストローで飲まないのは違和感だったんだけど、この方がエコでいいのかもってちょっと思ったね。
調べてみたらスターバックスは2020年までに全世界の店舗でプラスチック製のストローを廃止するらしい。ミッション完了がもうすぐそこまで来てるのに全然気づかなかった！
確かに今プラスチックによる海洋汚染が大きな問題になっててローラとかもインスタで取り上げてるよね
ニューヨークでお茶したときも レモネード頼んだらストローが紙だったよ。日本では何回か経験したことあるけどやっぱりなんか変な感じ。
分かりにくいけどこれ紙のストロー
エッサベーグルで買った飲み物についてたストローも紙で出来てて ニューヨークではこれが当たり前なのかなぁと思った。
最初は違和感でもそれをスタンダードにしていけばもっと広まっていくだろうし、その為にはスターバックスみたいな大きな企業が率先してやってくことが不可欠だなって実感したよ。
紙のストローはくちゃくちゃになっちゃうから慣れる必要があるけどね。
追記
3月1日からニューヨークではプラスチック製のレジ袋の提供が法律で禁止されたよ。これを機にもっともっとエコバッグを持ち歩く習慣が広まって欲しいな。（3/2, 2020)
Hi my lovely readers!
I pick up "eco" in Canada and the US as the topic this time
When I ordered an iced tea at Starbucks in Toronto, they gave me the beverage without straw. At that time I looked for straw around there but couldn't find it. Probably they might give it to me if asked but I just tried drinking directly. I felt weird at first but also thought it's kind of eco friendly.
According to google, Starbucks has decided to abolish providing plastic straws all around the world by 2020. I didn't know about this at all even though the time is coming around the corner. Also during my staying in NY, I found paper straws for several times.
Marine pollution is a serious problem right now for sure and some celebrities are taking up this issue in their Instagram.
Even if it's strange at first, it would spread out by trying to make it standard in society then people gradually would get used to it. Of course it's indispensable that big companies like Starbucks take the initiative to change the world.
Btw I know the hardness of getting used to paper straws...

From 1st March, it's banned to provide prastic bags in retail stores in NY.
Hope more people go with thier eco bags soon.

Where I started

I started blogging about my trip because I think only Instagram is not enough to share my experience. I know Vlog is much trendier right now and just blog is OLD-FASHIONED but I believe in the power of words. Hope you enjoy and find something new from my STRAWBERRY FIELDS FOREVER blog!
The very first post is about my trip to Toronto.
The reason why I went to Toronto is to see my host family. Honestly I don't wanna call them host family but cannot help it because we met in this way.
As many of my friends know almost 3 years ago I came to Canada as an exchange student from my uni and stayed in Toronto for the first 5 months with my host family. They treated and spoiled me like their true daughter. I think our relationship is kind of different from other host families and students.
I went back after over 2 years but nothing has changed except for their house (they moved last year). Can't thank them enough for having me and calling me their daughter even though im very a naughty girl;) I'll go back to Canada for summer next time and also wanna see my friends in Canada.

まずは2泊3日でトロントにいるホストファミリーに会いに行ってきたよ
約2年ぶりにパパママに会った瞬間思いがけず泣いちゃったくらい嬉しかった
ちなみに私はホストファミリーから
Anne
と呼ばれています
実は赤毛のアンの主人公の名前から来てるんだよね
主人公のアンはヤンチャで悪戯っ子でわんぱくらしい
読んだことないから知らないけど
そのキャラがすごく私と被るんだって
確かに掃除機の部品壊したこともあったし、
ママの大切なクリスマスツリーのオーナメントを割っちゃったこともあったし、
ミートスパゲティを階段にぶち撒けたこともあった
その度に仕方ないなぁ、アンはDisasterだから
って許してくれた
わざとじゃないってちゃんと分かってくれてるから
スパゲティをぶち撒けた時、ママは寝てて
起きる前に片付けたけど
翌朝それに気づいたママがめっちゃ怒ってた
けどその時にママが
すごく怒っているけど、あなたのことは憎めない
それだけ可愛くて愛してるのよ
って言ったのを今でも覚えてる
ちなみにパパは私を庇おうとしてそのこと黙ってたから
翌朝ママにめっちゃ怒られてた
こんなことも含めて2人のことホストファミリーって呼ぶの何か違うような気もするんだよね
パパとママのご飯はとにかくおいしくて
今回も私の大好きなラザニアとベーグルサンド作ってくれた
ルックスヤミーでしょ
あと、トロント観光もした！
お世話になったEducation Primeのカツさんにお会いして写真撮ってもらったり(プロなんだよ！)、通ってた学校、図書館、色んなとこを回った。
カナダで生活し始めた最初の頃、毎日がとにかく辛くて若干病みながら電車乗って学校行ってたこととか、夜遅くにガラガラのTTCでアデル聴きながら韓国に帰っちゃう友達のこと想って寂しくなったこととか思い出した
いっぱいの友達が出来て、学んで、強くなれた場所だからここが私のアナザースカイ、カナダです！って大きい声で言いたい🤣(実はユニオン駅でやった)
短い期間だったけど、カナダを訪れてよかったと心から思います！
